I WAKE UP AT…

6 am on weekdays most times.  I’m actually not a morning person, but that’s when my alarm goes off in order for me to get the kids out the door – and me out as well.  On the weekends, my family calls it the “queen’s day to sleep.”  No one would dare call me before 10 am.

HOW MANY HOURS SLEEP DO YOU TYPICALLY GET?

6 (I’d prefer 8, but I don’t go to bed till midnight on most weekdays).

Various Sportcoats

WHAT DOES THE EVERYDAY UNIFORM LOOK LIKE?

My uniform is most often dressing in black and white in some form. My favorite color is RED, so I often include a red accessory if I’m not wearing a red shirt or dress. I enjoy accessorizing very much and often plan my outfits around the accessories.  Heels and a large handbag are a must (Valentino preferred).

COFFEE? TEA? WATER? OTHER?

Decaf coffee. Yes, decaf.  I absolutely love the taste of coffee and it makes me just as happy as the full strength. I drink a decaf cappuccino with skim in the cooler months and a decaf iced latte with skim in the warmer months. Being from Louisiana, the iced latte season is much longer than the cappuccino season.

WHAT DOES BREAKFAST LOOK LIKE?

Breakfast comes in the shape of a protein bar. I usually eat it on-the-go in the car on the way to the office.

WHAT THE MOST IMPORTANT THING THAT YOU MUST DO EVERY MORNING?

I make a checklist every morning for what I must accomplish that day. “They” say that what gets written down gets done.  Although I have multiple personal electronic devices from an iphone to an ipad to my laptop to my desktop (which all “sync” together), I still enjoy the habit of writing down what I need to get done that day. There is a satisfaction that comes to scratching items off of your list.

WHAT PRODUCT OR THING COULD YOU NOT LIVE WITHOUT WHEN YOU WAKE UP?

Lipstick! Red lipstick. While I know this is a men’s magazine, a fresh coat of stay-on lipstick in the morning will last me most of the day. I wouldn’t dare get in the shower without it.

HAS YOUR MORNING ROUTINE CHANGED OVER THE YEARS? WHEN YOU TRAVEL?

My morning routine has definitely changed over the years.  For years I woke up at 5:30am to get dressed and ready for the day before my girls woke up.  I would help prepare their lunches, feed them breakfast, then drive them to school.  I would drive directly to the office after I dropped them off.  Now that I only have one daughter remaining in the house (and she drives!), I can wake up a bit later and have more “relaxing” time to spend with her in the morning before she leaves for school.  The frantic morning routine has improved greatly!  The best part about travel is NOT having a typical morning routine.  I’m quite accustomed to an over-scheduled day, so when I travel, especially on vacation, I don’t have to have a set agenda and can go with the flow.  It’s out of my comfort zone not to have a schedule, but I enjoy it.

WHEN YOU DON’T FOLLOW THIS ROUTINE, HOW DOES THAT AFFECT THE REST OF THE DAY?

It was a great day when my youngest began driving to school.  It truly allowed me to have an easier morning, and therefore, a more pleasant workday.  Because I’m not a morning person, it makes life so much easier when all runs smoothly before 8am.

DO YOU FEEL LIKE HAVING A ROUTINE HAS BEEN ESSENTIAL TO YOUR SUCCESS IN YOUR INDUSTRY?

Routine is always good, especially for me.  Since I’m always juggling so many different things, I enjoy the ability to keep a schedule and to have a method to my madness.  Part of me thrives on chaos – just as long as it’s “good” chaos.
